Education & Outreach

The Dynamic Compression Sector’s (DCS) vision is to enable a broad suite of frontier science opportunities, fuel the development of new experimental and theoretical capabilities for advancing dynamic compression science, and educate/train the next generation of scientists in this exciting field.

DCS Experiments: Short Course

Hands-on courses provide guidance to prepare users for epic DCS experiments! Learn optimal methods to build targets for Plate Impact or Laser Shock experiments. Then observe an experiment and learn best practices for data analysis.

Courses are being planned 2024 during the weeks of July 15 and August 12.

Dynamic Compression Summer School

Understanding Materials at Extreme Conditions

The Dynamic Compression Summer School has been established to provide an overview of dynamic compression science appropriate for upper-level undergraduates and first-year graduate students. The four and a half days of activities will introduce students to the scientific fundamentals, contemporary research activities including informal discussions, and career opportunities within this exciting field.

Most recently, the Summer School was held in August 2023. To see examples of application, eligibility, and itinerary details, visit our Undergraduate Research webpages.
